Choosing a sewing table or cabinet is one of the biggest decisions you'll make for your sewing space. The right setup can transform how you work — reducing back strain, keeping your tools organized, and making your machine a joy to use. The wrong one can leave you frustrated and cramped.

We carry four brands — Arrow, Kangaroo, Horn of America, and Create Room — and we've helped thousands of sewists find their perfect match. This guide is our honest, experience-based advice to help you do the same.

The most important thing to know upfront: no single brand is best for everyone. The right choice depends on your machine, your projects, your space, and your budget. Let's find yours.

The Four Brands

What Makes Each Brand Different

We carry four brands and each has a distinct personality. Here's how to think about them:

Arrow™ Sewing Furniture
Best for: Beginners · Small spaces · Value-conscious buyers

Arrow is America's most recognized sewing furniture brand. They offer the widest range of price points, from the affordable Gidget I all the way up to the Laverne & Shirley. Arrow cabinets are well-built, widely available, and backed by solid warranty coverage. If you're buying your first real sewing cabinet or working with a tighter budget, Arrow is almost always the right place to start.

Kangaroo™ Sewing Cabinets
Best for: Quilters · Heavy machines · Full-featured setups

Kangaroo is Arrow's premium Australian-born sister brand — same parent company, higher-end build quality and features. Kangaroo cabinets are known for their hydraulic lifts (smoother and quieter than airlift), their generous machine openings, and their quilting-friendly designs. If you have a heavy embroidery machine or do a lot of quilting, Kangaroo is worth the extra investment.

Horn of America™
Best for: Professionals · Longevity · Heavy daily use

Horn of America is the premium tier of sewing furniture. Made in the USA with top-grade materials, Horn cabinets are built to last a lifetime — and many do. If you're a daily sewist with a heavy machine who wants furniture that will outlast every other piece in your sewing room, Horn is your brand. The price reflects the quality: these are serious investments for serious sewists.

Create Room™ (DreamBox)
Best for: Multi-crafters · Storage · Craft room transformation

Create Room makes the DreamBox — the viral all-in-one craft storage cabinet that's taken over sewing rooms everywhere. It's not a traditional sewing cabinet (no machine lift built in), but for multi-crafters who need to organize everything from fabric to ribbon to tools, nothing comes close. Many serious sewists own both a DreamBox and a dedicated sewing cabinet.

Shopping by Budget

Under $500 — Getting Started

You can get a genuinely solid sewing table at this price point. The Arrow Gidget I and Gidget II are collapsible, lightweight, and work well for lighter machines. The Arrow Judy adds an airlift mechanism at an accessible price.

$500–$1,500 — The Sweet Spot

This is where the best value lives. The Kangaroo Bandicoot, Arrow Alice, and Arrow Harriet all offer full cabinet storage, airlift mechanisms, and room-enhancing design at reasonable prices. The DreamBox Center also falls here for multi-crafters.

$1,500–$3,000 — Premium Setups

The Kangaroo Wallaby, Aussie, and Kangaroo & Joey live here, as does the DreamBox. These are serious, full-featured setups that will serve you for many years.

$3,000+ — Investment Pieces

Horn of America's premium models — the 9090, 9080, and others — are in this tier. These are built for daily professional use. If you're a serious quilter or embroiderer who sews every day, the investment pays for itself in durability and ergonomics.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my sewing machine fit in the cabinet?
Not all machines fit all cabinets. Measure your machine's width, depth, and height (including knobs and plugs) and compare to the cabinet's lift opening dimensions. When in doubt, contact us — we've helped thousands of customers match machines to cabinets.
What's the difference between an airlift and a hydraulic lift?
An airlift uses a gas strut (like a car hatch) to raise and lower your machine. A hydraulic lift uses fluid pressure for a smoother, more controlled movement. Kangaroo's hydraulic lifts are generally smoother and quieter. Both work well — the hydraulic is a premium upgrade worth having if your machine is heavy.
Do cabinets come assembled?
Most sewing cabinets ship flat-packed (RTA — Ready to Assemble). Assembly difficulty varies: the Gidget I and II are very simple, while larger cabinets like the Aussie or Horn models require more time and may take 3–5 hours. Follow the included instructions carefully.
What's the difference between Arrow and Kangaroo?
Arrow and Kangaroo are both made by the same parent company. Arrow is the accessible, value-focused line. Kangaroo is the premium Australian-born line with heavier-duty builds, smoother hydraulic lifts, and larger machine openings. If budget allows, Kangaroo is generally the upgrade worth making for serious sewists.
Is the DreamBox a sewing cabinet?
No — the DreamBox is a craft storage cabinet, not a traditional sewing cabinet. However, Create Room makes the DreamStation add-on which includes an electric machine lift and connects directly to the DreamBox. Many sewists use a DreamBox for storage alongside a dedicated sewing cabinet.
Why buy from Sewing Tables by Sara vs. Amazon or the manufacturer directly?
We're an authorized dealer for all four brands, which means your warranty is fully valid. We offer up to 30% off MSRP, free shipping, and no sales tax outside Massachusetts. But most importantly: we know these products. When something goes wrong, we help you resolve it — you're not navigating a 1-800 number alone.
